What are the things I must pack for DAIICT?

What are the things I must pack for DAIICT?

Every day to day and necessary items are available near the campus so don’t worry about that thing, mattress has to be arrange but they are keeping demonstration cum sale on the date of counselling at their departmental stores, which is available at discounted rates than market. Which is advisable because size of the mattress is fit as per the bed of the hostels so it is recommended to buy from them.
Any particular medicine you are taking or been advised by physicians has to be in your medical kit. Other optional suggestions is
1.Table Lamp
2.Wall mirror
3.Medical Kit along with your history of medical diesease. ( If you are alergic to something always keep the medicine for that )
4.Small Lock for your cup board ( take small one don’t buy big lock for your cup board )
5.Hangers for your cloths
6.Iron if you are doing regularly .
7.Plastic Bath Set since bathrooms are common for every 10 rooms appx.
8.Extra pair of eye glass if you are wearing because emergencies can occur if one is broken.
9. Don’t bring original credentials with your keep them at your home safely they will not required during your colleage. Keep the soft copies of all I Cards and academic credentials.
10. A big no to Laptop for first year students, so don’t think to bring secretly it will cost you if you caught.
11. Home made food a big concern of mother, please don’t bring home made snacks here , everything is available at cafeteria, bring only dry snacks which is non perishable.
12. Since you have to clean your own room so if possible don’t bring too much stuff in the first year keep it simple and bring those things which you really need day to day otherwise it will be great mess in the room and believe me I have witness those messy rooms in boys hostel.

Which is the better option; doing computer engineering at SVNIT-Surat, Gujarat or b.tech in ict at DA-IICT Gandhinagar, Gujarat?

Which is the better option; doing computer engineering at SVNIT-Surat, Gujarat or b.tech in ict at DA-IICT Gandhinagar, Gujarat?

(DA Vs SVNIT )

For B.Tech , DAIICT is better than SVNIT in my opinion.
Few things to remember:
DAIICT is only offers ICT and ICT with minor in Computational Science. (Similar to IIITs.)
->So what is ICT?
ICT stands for Information and Communication Technologies. It is mixture of IT + EC and also somewhat computer science. DAIICT offers more broad curriculum than simply IT or EC or Computer Science. Core subjects from these subjects are there in curriculum.
Also, as student, you can choose either you want focus on only IT or only EC from 3rd year. Till 3rd year , you will get to learn both.(only core subjects which are more relevant.). Most of students opt for IT from 3rd year. So for ease of comparing , I will compare computer department at SVNIT vs DAIICT.
So let's start comparing DAIICT and SVNIT. (I am from Surat where SVNIT is located and I am studying at DAIICT which puts in right situation for comparison.)
Faculty: DAIICT >> SVNIT
DAIICT : Total 42 professors (not considering visiting and adjunct faculty):
All professors have Ph.D. from well reputed colleges.
Best faculty you could find in INDIA.
+10 visiting professors & adjunct faculty.
SVNIT: Total 11 professors :
 2 main professors (Ph.D.) ,
 3 assosiate professor (1 Ph.D.,2 M.Tech.),
 6 assistant professor (1 Ph.D.,5 M.Tech.)

DAIICT has faculty of SVNIT's combined computer+electronics+electrical departments and only Ph.D. professors while SVNIT has faculty with more than 50% M.Tech. professors.

What are the admission criteria for DAIICT through the GUJCET and the JEE?

What are the admission criteria for DAIICT through the GUJCET and the JEE?

I got admission in daiict in 2017
So,now daiict has two branches. One is ICT and other is ICT with honours in computational science(not computer science).
So cutoff stats for general category in 2017 were as follows:
ACPC:
ICT with CS:99.87 percentile i.e upto rank 51(60% of gseb/cbse/icse+40% of gujcet percentile)
ICT:99.58 percentile i.e upto rank 229
The official website for seeing ACPC cutoff is as under:
JEE(not official one but approx cutoff):
ICT with CS:AIR 8xxx
ICT:AIR 13000–14000
If you have AIR less than 12500,then you can get DAIICT easily.
Thanks for reading!

HOW IS THE FOOD AT DAIICT ?

HOW IS THE FOOD AT DAIICT ?

I love eating. Its the reason I have 10 kg of additional fat on me, but if you want to know about the food at DA(yes we use “DA” instead of “DAIICT”) I am a better person.
It all starts with breakfast:
The first shop “Honey” one will serve pauva, booiled chana, dhokla, khaman and now a days upma with samosa and lot of other stuff, with a very hot ginger powder added tea which I used to buy for Rs. 10 and now they take 11 for that will be served.
The second and the third shop are really one owned by padma kamal as it says, the second one will serve upma, mendu vada, and idli with sambhar. The upma will be somewhat sweeter than what you have ate, but the sambhar really balances it with a little of white chutney which is usually very cold as compared to other things, but is delicious.
The third shop serves pauva, samosa, and rest of khaman and dhokla. And the tea, yes That is my favourite one. It has a pinch of elaichi in it, but dont forget to add sugar in it, it will make it awesome.
Fourth shop will serve only omlet which is made from very old egg atleast 10 days with bread.
5th shop is divided in two parts one contains all the amul stuff and the other great tea and biscuits.
We have a non-active inner canteen for breakfast.
Lunch:
Thalis at 1,2 and inner canteen. According to me the 2 one is the best among the three. You will get a restaurant type menu other than this which includes paneer, and other curries.
NOTE: No matter what you order from the inner canteen the gravy used will be only of two types sweet and spicy. It means veg Afghani will taste like paneer tikka masala the only difference will be paneer and vegetables.
Fourth canteen serves the non veg stuff which I never ate, I have tried the egg biryani which has less salt and more chilly powder in it sometimes, but I like spicy food.
Brunch: Dhosas after 2 pm will be served at 2nd shop followed by the inner one.
Dinner: It will be same as lunch, difference is first shop will serve thali as well as chole bhature followed by dal bati and pav bhaji, tawa pulav will always be served.
Maggi at night with tea, coffee other similar stuff.
We have a juice shop and the speciality is
Koffee++: great sandwichies but costly as compared to other stuff. Pizza and burger are very poor as compared to other.
If you have ordered cheese burger from the inner canteen the dont forget to tell him to add cheese slice in it. You dont want to get a 33 rupees worth burger by paying 42(previously he took 40 from me).
You will also lose weight but will love the canteen a lot. I do love the canteen and its food however it is, it always satisfies my hunger. Sometimes I take two sets of breakfast and order many other things like ice cream, packets and all to fulfill my hunger.
We have recently got a guy who sells sugarcane juice for Rs. 20 and the funny thing is others add ice in sugarcane juice but our person adds sugarcane to ice(in freezer) so it is the purest sugarcane juice.
After saying about the food, one last thing the food is healthy and you wont fall sick due to it. But make some effort to look at the number of tikki used for making burger, I know they dont cook it daily ; )

How can DA-IICT become a better institute?

How can DA-IICT become a better institute?

  • Encourage more people to stay in the hostel over the weekends! People need exposure, not the comfort of their homes. (Improve the quality of the hostels).
  • Bring innovation to the campus, in my batch people would take the time to make innovative projects of their own / invest time in developing a good startup Idea, but this would always be out of the classroom, innovative projects can be made a part of the curriculum.
  • In my orientation, Prof. Suman Mitra demonstrated how a low score in a single subject would affect my overall pointer and bring my grades down, and that was about it for the orientation.. Yes, grades are important, but the college should not endorse focusing only on grades. As a result of that orientation, many of my batchmates were very reluctant to participate in extra/co-curriculars. The college must understand that they're just as important for personality development.
  • Usage of online platforms for assignment submissions
  • Is there a CPI threshold by companies coming for placements in DA-IICT?

Is there a CPI threshold by companies coming for placements in DA-IICT?

I will answer this question keeping in mind final year placements and not pre-final year internships.
To graduate from DA-IICT, you need to have above 5 CPI in ICT and above 6.5 CPI in ICT with CS.
Few companies like Amazon and Directi do not require minimum CPI to appear for the test.
Some better opportunities like those at Microsoft and Morgan Stanley require a CPI of above 7. Microsoft might even be interested in your SPI to be above 7 for each semester.
Most of the companies coming to DA-IICT require a minimum CPI of 6. This also includes mass recruitment companies like Infosys and L&T.
Hence, from perspective of opportunities, higher the CPI more the opportunities. Although, beyond a point, it does not serve you additional benefits. At DA-IICT this point is at 6 CPI, which will move up in a few years again.
For all I observed, students with exceptionally high CPI will have it a tad more difficult as the recruiters consider them more academically oriented with more chances of going for higher studies immediately after graduation!

What kind of activities can one do in the first summer vacation from DAIICT?

What kind of activities can one do in the first summer vacation from DAIICT?

Doing an internship after 1st year wont help much.Do competitive programming mostly and learn something else also.
Learn data structures and algorithms well. You must have had a basic course on data structures.
I am not sure whether object oriented is covered or not. If not then learn object oriented programming first. Cave of programming tutorials are good.
Complete Standford algorithm and Princeton algorithm course on coursera. Also do codemonk s and participate on codeforces contest regularly.
Learn how to use git(important). Udacity has a course on it.Also it will help if u want to do GSOC next year.
And also learn web development or ML whatever thing that interest you.I would suggest web development if you're not in research stuff and it get hands on and easy to get started . Also it will help you get a internship next year . I would suggest you to check out Freecodecamp and Odin project and also learn code academy from YouTube if you are interested in web development.
If interested in ML ,do the Andrew ng course on ML and also Udacity course on ml . Learn python if u want to do ML.
If you want to do GSOC next year , then learn about open source. Learn git. Also learning web development may help as many projects are in Java script.
So my advice will be to do competitive programming and also learn something else which interests you like web, ml, Andriod etc.

WHAT IS PRESENT SITUATION IN DAIICT 2018 ?

WHAT IS PRESENT SITUATION IN DAIICT 2018 ?

I think present situation is not so good.
    DAIICT needs brand awareness .
    College doesnt have enough funds.
Administration sucks . They dont care about the future of college.
People outside gujarat dont prefer daiict.
And yeah , seniors have established a good coding culture , that’s the only saving grace of this college.
    and placements are good enough.
this year on going average for btech students is 15.5 lac for a total of around 150 students.
So this is a average only top 5 nits can beat . And they have almost 80 students which is much lesser.
So daiict needs a immediate change in administration and new funds.
Otherwise it wont get quality students and reduce to something like thapar is now

WHY SHOULD I TAKE ADDMISSION IN DAIICT ?

    • The curriculum or syllabus is very good.(all professors are very interactive and supportive)
    • You have very good campus and best environment fo good ideas(green and soothing).
    • The Library here is one of the best.
    • 10 GB net daily.
    • Professors are pretty good.
    • The environment is very well too.
    • Seniors are good
    • nowhere you can find food  quality like DAIICT .
    • all clubs and commitees  incourage student to participate in lots of activities

WHAT ARE THE MOST INTERESTING STORIES ABOUT DAIICT PLACEMENT ?

WHAT ARE THE MOST INTERESTING STORIES ABOUT DAIICT PLACEMENT ?

One of my friends (let's call him X) had very average grades going into final year and placement season. This was in the days when companies  were still in the process of discovering DAIICT (I hope things are much better now) and a "top placement" meant a big Indian IT services firm (I'm quite certain things are much better now!)

Back to our story - while most of us got placed in companies like TCS, Infy, Mindtree, Interra etc in our 7th Sem, X struggled to get placed even in the final sem - it must've been quite tough for him to see all his friends enjoying themselves with peace of mind while he had to fight self-doubt (my guess), explicit pressure from family (I think his Dad felt he needed to "improve" a bit), and a lot of implicit peer pressure. Soon, most of the 200+ batch were placed and companies coming to campus became more rare as they probably knew the cream of the batch (at least in terms of GPA/CPI) was taken. What I found most surprising was that it wasn't for lack of technical competency that he wasn't getting placed, as there were dozens like me who had been selected for a nameless firm without displaying anything of the sort.

One day, a different kind of firm arrived hoping to discover a unique sort of talent which was still untapped. I don't think they really expected to hire a single person at our campus and were just testing the waters. They took a "technical" test which my friend happened to pass with flying colours - something he hadn't done previously. It just so happened that he had a different sort of "technical" competence - which most of us never had a chance to discover in  DAIICT; a competency for "quant" to put in a single word. This "different" firm was known for its derivatives trading desks, and it had hit upon the exact profile it had dreamed of.

X never looked back, as unlike most of us, he had discovered his passion. He won awards there for algorithmic trading (back when no one outside finance had heard of the term), and moved on to the US of A where he now serves as a technical expert for financial markets in the Fed Reserve Bank (yes, America's RBI :-)

Hope to see him on the front page of Indian newspapers someday like Satya Nadella!
